The Brain
Although it is safe to say that men and women think differently it would be naïve to assign a blanket statement that every man and every woman fall under the classifications we assign in this article. Please keep in mind that we are speaking in generalities and try to apply the information to your life as you see fit.
Lasers vs Satellite Dishes
In everyday interactions men tend to see things more analytically and employ laser focus to grab information that is “vital” to their activities. In contrast, women tend to absorb more information, like a satellite dish, and process the “whole” instead of the “parts” of a situation or activity.
The scientific reasons behind these differences are found in how males and females use the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Men tend to use the right side, which is specialized and focused, for verbal and visual activities. This suggests that the main input of the male brain is vision. Women tend to use both sides of the brain for the same activities which allows them to interpret a “big picture” of the activity.
Is it any wonder then why men are more apt to finding themselves stuck in pornography addiction? The male brain is designed to focus on a single activity with visual input being the key indicator of what an activity means. This certainly doesn’t mean that women are immune to the effects of pornography, just that different forms of it must be designed to appeal to them.
The Brain’s Internal Communication
Another difference between the male and female brain is how the two sides of the brain communicate. More specifically, how well the two sides of the brain communicate. Autopsies have shown that women have a larger corpus callsoum (nerve fibers that link the two sides of the brain) which allows them to use a wider range of sensory information to interpret a situation. The male brain on the other hand has fewer connections between the two sides of the brain which impedes his ability to be more than analytical in an approach to a situation.
Because the left side of the brain connects speech to feelings, males then have a harder time expressing their emotions. Due to the nature of pornography addiction this “inability” plays a role in the downward spiral of the Avoidance Cycle.
