Sex is Not the Cure

Many people with a pornography addiction often think, “Once I can have sex with a spouse I won’t need porn anymore.”

To fully understand the flaw in this thinking you have to understand that pornography addiction is not about sex. Take a minute to digest that statement, because it is key to your understanding of this addiction, as well as your recovery.

Pornography is a “brain chemical” addiction that is comparable in many ways to street drug addictions. With that in mind, apply the same logic to a cocaine addict. Would a teenager or young adult with a cocaine addiction be magically cured of his addiction after marriage? Obviously, the answer is no. It is important to understand that the same will be true for how porn “addicts” use their drug of choice. Pornography addiction is not about sex, more often it is about self-medication in response to stressful situations.
